HENRINKYLÄ

HENRINKYLÄ:
A TRADITIONAL CHRISTIAN
SETTLEMENT IN FINLAND
WHY HERE? WHY NOW?
In a post-christian Europe, communities of value are essential to human flourishing.
It has never been harder to live a life of both community and faith. Europe has embraced modernity, but with its many benefits has come a hollowing of the soul. The search for connection is a definitive aspect of the human experience, yet increasingly, we find ourselves set apart from one another: atomised, commercialised, and cut off from the transcendent.
Henrinkylä is a proposed Christian settlement in rural Finland. We aim to recreate the sense of community and centredness that once characterised traditional life in Europe. With the rise of remote-working and the EU passport, it has never been easier for value-aligned individuals to create new communities, first online, and then in the real world.
Our vision is a small town set among lakes and forests, named for Saint Henry, the English bishop martyred on his mission to the Finns. Our residents: young families and individuals from across Europe, drawn together by a shared appreciation for the European Christian tradition, who aim to live together in fellowship and a faith-affirming manner.

'The man who lives in a small community lives in a much larger world.'
